Case StudyTaking a European critical infrastructure software leader global

Following its acquisition by a global industrial technology group, a leading enterprise software provider entered a new phase of growth.

With a new CEO and ambitious plans to expand internationally, the business partnered with Wenham Carter to build the leadership and teams that would deliver that strategy.

Business ContextAccelerating international growth following acquisition

The business is a leading provider of enterprise software for critical infrastructure operators, supporting some of the world’s largest utility and industrial organisations.

Following its acquisition by a larger international technology group, the company entered a new chapter. A newly appointed CEO was tasked with accelerating international growth, with plans to increase global headcount fivefold over five years while expanding the company’s presence across North America, Asia-Pacific and other strategic markets.

The Growth ChallengeBuilding leadership in markets where the brand was still emerging

The company’s reputation was well established in Europe, but it had lower brand recognition in several international markets where future growth would come from.

Success depended on attracting senior leaders who were already thriving in their careers, many of them working for larger, more established competitors. Winning those individuals required more than a search process. It meant understanding the company’s ambitions, presenting a compelling growth story, and identifying leaders who wanted to help shape the next stage of the business.

Our ApproachStarting with leadership, then building the organisation

The relationship began with the appointment of the company’s Chief Product Officer.

Through that search, Wenham Carter developed a close partnership with the CEO, gaining a deep understanding of the company’s growth plans and long-term hiring ambitions. That initial appointment became the foundation for a broader international programme.

We first strengthened the leadership team across Product, Commercial and Engineering before supporting the build-out of the organisations beneath them. Over two years, the partnership has delivered senior commercial, product and engineering leaders across Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia-Pacific, helping establish the capability needed to support international expansion.

The success of the programme has also led to a wider partnership with the parent organisation, where Wenham Carter continues to support additional strategic leadership hiring.

Business OutcomeLeadership supporting growth across international markets

The business has established the leadership needed to support its international growth strategy and continued expansion into new markets.

Many of the senior leaders appointed through the partnership remain in place today, building their own teams, strengthening customer relationships, expanding product capability and helping grow the company’s presence internationally.

What began as a single executive appointment has developed into a long-term partnership supporting both the business and its parent organisation.
